Cosmos Hydro Power Pvt Ltd, Chanju-II (21.7MW)

Situated in the serene locality of Tisa, Churah Valley, Chamba District, Himachal Pradesh, Chanju is a run-of-the-river plant harnessing the waters of two tributaries of the Ravi River.

The plant’s head is 125 meters and accommodates two weirs, two desilting tanks, and directing water through two tunnels totalling 6 km in length with 2.5-meter diameters.

The plant is designed in a way that the vertical drop shaft directs water into an underground powerhouse and transmits power from there onwards. The transmission line supplies power to the Himachal Pradesh grid through the HPPTCL Mazra Substation. It is further transmitted through Power Grid Corporation lines to Delhi for residential use in North Delhi. The Project has a long-term Power
purchase Agreement (PPA) with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL).

The plant achieved full commissioning in 2022 and was constructed by Sai Shakti Solutions and Sai Engineering Foundation together. Financing was through a long-term secured debt facility underwritten by the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA).

The generators are from WEG, a Brazilian manufacturer. The Francis Turbines and the balance of the Plant are from Flovel Energy Private Ltd, a leading Indian manufacturer of turbines.
