Shree Bhavani Power Projects Pvt Ltd, Manglad (5MW)
Manglad is a testimony to innovative engineering. The run-of-the-river plant is situated near Rampur Bushahr, Shimla District, Himachal Pradesh, and harnesses the water of a tributary of the Sutlej River.
The plant’s head is 260 meters with a 3 km, 1.8-meter diameter tunnel, and a 1 km pennstock that directs water into the turbines. The power generated at this overground powerhouse reaches the homes of Himachal Pradesh through Kotla Substation.
The plant was commissioned in 2010 and was financed with a long-term secured debt facility underwritten by the Bank of India and is constructed by the pioneer of hydropower contract works in the Himalayan ranges, Sai Engineering Foundation. The generator is from TD Power System, a Bengaluru-based firm with Japanese technology partnerships. The Pelton Turbines and the balance of the parts are from Andritz Hydro, a leading Austrian manufacturer of turbines.
